Miscellaneous interesting stuff

Stuff we thought was interesting this week:

Jamie and I read The Score—How Childbirth Went Industrial in The New Yorker this week. It talks about the history of childbirth complications, how the Apgar score changed the process of modern childbirth and it reminded us that hey, the human body really is miraculous!

Science is miraculous, too! Scientists teleported two different objects this week.

We've been talking quite a bit about the shooting at the Amish school and in particular, the two girls in the group who asked to be shot first and second, hoping that by doing so, they could protect the younger girls.

From the Houston Chronicle:

The sun is seen between trees amidst the haze in Pelalawan, Indonesia's Riau province. Thick smoke from bush and forest fires and the resultant haze in Indonesia has forced schools to close and brought misery to residents.
