Monday

Today I had to run over to Anderson (small Indiana town) so I stopped in Pendelton (another small Indiana town) on the way back to go to an apple market/bakery place someone told me about. I bought some cortland apples because Jamie's been wanting to make a pie and an apple dumpling because I'd never had one before. It was Good. So now I'm going to try to talk Jamie into making dumplings instead of pie. Make me apple dumplings, Jamie!!

Midwestern Observation of the Day: everyone says midwesterners are very friendly but really, I think they're more polite than friendly because they seem to be far more stiff and formal than Southerners when it comes to casual interactions.

And in other news, I am thoroughly disgusted with house republicans and with David Foley, who is now claiming alcoholism. I just never knew, until recently, that alcohol could turn one into an anti-semite or a pedophile. Interesting, that.

Here's a cemetery across the street from the market that's set on the edge of a corn field:

One of the things I love about being a parent is finding the charming/funny little things the children leave around the house. In Sam and Jordan's room, I just ran across Barbie dressed really oddly:

I just lllooovvveee reading your blog, Susanne. It makes me feel like you still live just a couple of miles from me. Belive it or not, there are definite signs of autumn around here in Baton Rouge too, even though it's 90 degrees today (low humitidy and low over night temps). The trees are dropping their leaves and the pool is becoming a mess.

Thanks, Jana! I think *you* need a blog. Or--email me pictures of those kids!
