New Year's Eve was church in the morning and for the Eve part the five of us stayed home and had snacks and punch for dinner.
At midnight we made a lot of noise, courtesy of the instruments Beverly and Walter gave us for Christmas, as we watched Dick Clark kissing his wife at midnight (not recommended) and then we headed outside for fireworks.
After that it was back inside to take the chocolate lava cakes out of the oven (they were soooo good!) and then the kids were off to bed.

New Year's Day we had our good luck black eyed peas! Sammy and Jordan didn't really *like* the peas, but they were required to eat at least one. I recently learned there's speculation that the peas are considered good luck in connection with a certain *unnecessary* incident during the Civil War involving one General Sherman, so I passed that information along. Brutal acts of war always make lovely dinner table conversation!
